Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7)  is one of the most used tools for evaluating the presence of generalized anxiety disorder. This tool is connected with gender and age and has a strong connection with somatization and sadness. Patients who show signs of GAD are damaged in their daily and social life. GAD-7 is a survey that includes seven questions that are asked of patients. Depending on the answer they give that varies from “not at all” to “nearly every day”  to evaluate the symptoms of anxiety over the last 2 weeks. The tool is often used to detect and analyze treatment results in clinical and research contexts. Valued for reliability, ease of use, and validity in identifying anxiety symptoms.

GAD-7 components include:

  • Nervousness
  • Difficulty in relaxing
  • Unable to stop worrying
  • Restlessness
  • Easy irritation
  • Fear of something terrible happening

The response of evaluating the score has 4 stages that have a range of points from  0 to 21 in total. The responses are not at all” (= 0 points), “several days” (= 1 point), “more than half the days” (= 2 points), and “nearly every day” (= 3 points).
